Mission & Vision

Imagine being able to ride bikes with your entire family, on major roads in Scarborough, without any fear. With protected bike lanes it would be a fun, easy, and healthy experience getting to school, the grocery store, or your favourite dinner spot.

Calling for protected bike lanes in Scarborough is about more than transportation — our streets have the power to connect communities, improve our mental and physical health, provide space for children to play, and allow businesses to thrive.

Cycle Toronto is advocating for reimagining our streets to their full potential and making them work better for everyone. While people will still be able to drive, other options, like biking, will be a lot more appealing with safe spaces on the road. This is a conversation about safe, healthy, and sustainable mobility options for people across our entire city.

We pledge to support this vision through our Move365 framework. Join the pledge with us by signing your name below.

It’s time to bring cycling infrastructure to Scarborough that works for people of all ages and abilities. This means protected bike lanes on major roads that connect to homes, businesses, schools, and other bike lanes.

Context

Scarborough — Toronto’s largest geographic area — is diverse both in terms of its landscapes and its people. It’s home to a national park, striking bluffs, many rivers, ravines, and everything in between. Its communities are densely populated, spread out, and rise high into the sky. People from all over the world have come together to call Scarborough home.

Many kilometres of bike lanes have been scoured from the roads of Scarborough; these bike lanes were never given a chance to grow into a network. They weren’t protected either. It’s time to bring cycling infrastructure to Scarborough that works for people of all ages and abilities. This means protected bike lanes on major roads that connect to homes, businesses, schools, and other bike lanes.

What’s next?

Three of our campaigns will see us working in Scarborough — Connect Danforth, Kingstonand  Eglinton for Everyone. However, bringing a network of protected bike lanes to Scarborough means connecting people, communities, and organizations. It means redesigning roads so that people can safely ride bikes while allowing people to walk, drive, and take transit smoothly. It means working with the community to create public spaces that they feel comfortable navigating.

Cycle Toronto wants to connect Scarborough through a collaborative approach. Sign below and collaborate with us as we partner with local organizations and build out a long term plan for a connected Scarborough.
