Mission & Vision

Imagine being able to ride bikes with your entire family on Kingston Road without any fear. With protected bike lanes it would be a fun, easy, and healthy experience getting to school, the grocery store, or your favourite dinner spot.

Calling for protected bike lanes on Kingston Road is about more than transportation — our streets have the power to connect communities, improve our mental and physical health, provide space for children to play, and allow businesses to thrive.

Cycle Toronto is advocating for reimagining our streets to their full potential and making them work better for everyone. While people will still be able to drive, other options, like biking, will be a lot more appealing with safe spaces on the road. This is a conversation about safe, healthy, and sustainable mobility options for people across our entire city.

We pledge to support this vision through our Move365 framework. Join the pledge with us by signing your name below.

Context

Kingston Road is a natural connection between East York, Scarborough, and the communities nearby. It runs past many homes, businesses, and schools. Yet, making local trips by bike is difficult — the trips made by kids trying to get to school and their parents trying to get to the grocery store around the corner — high speed limits and wide driving lanes make the road unsafe to ride bikes on. However, the size of Kingston makes it big enough for protected bike lanes.

Connect Kingston is part of Cycle Toronto’s bigger plan to connect Scarborough. It’s a plan that coordinates with campaigns for Danforth Avenue in the west and Eglinton Avenue to the northeast. It’s about creating connected, protected bike lanes.

What’s next?

Bringing a network of protected bike lanes to Scarborough means connecting people, communities, and organizations. It means redesigning roads so that people can safely ride bikes while allowing people to walk, drive, and take transit smoothly. It means working with the community to create public spaces that they feel comfortable navigating.

Cycle Toronto wants to connect Scarborough through a collaborative approach. Sign below and collaborate with us as we partner with local organizations and build out a long term plan for a connected Scarborough.
