About the position:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Campaigns and Engagement Manager oversees Cycle Toronto’s major campaigns, policy work, and local advocacy. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) contract position with opportunity for extension, pending available funding. Health benefits and a competitive vacation package will be available upon completion of a successful 3-month probation period.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Campaign Management
Develop and implement strategic campaign project plans and work backs
Develop and maintain relationships and builds alliances with residents associations, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), elected officials and other relevant stakeholders
Recruit, train and mentor members for campaign working groups and district organizers
Organize and attend Cycle Toronto campaign meetings and ensure excellent communication between campaign team members and staff
Utilize excellent meeting facilitation skills, enabling people to make meaningful contributions while staying focused on strategic goals
Organize and implement door-to-door local resident and business canvassing with related materials
Utilize effective project management planning and organizing tools
Policy Development
Research cycling infrastructure best practices to inform Cycle Toronto policy and education work
Write reports and submissions for City-based consultations and meetings
Oversee data collection measures such as cyclist counts along busy cycling routes
Develop innovative and strong evidence-based materials in collaboration with Communications Manager for dissemination to the public
Ward Advocacy Coordination
Recruit, train and mentor volunteers in our ward advocacy program and district leaders
Liaise with ward advocates, provide strategic advice and help support regular ward advocacy group meetings and events. Provide ward advocates with campaign updates and look for opportunities for collaboration with wider campaigns and programs
Develop and implement regular ward advocacy group training and supports
Qualifications:
A post-secondary degree in public policy, government relations, political science, community organizing or a related field, or equivalent experience
At least 2 years of professional or volunteer experience in campaign or grassroots organizing. Involvement with active transportation campaigns or Cycle Toronto’s campaigns considered an asset.
Demonstrated background and interest in inclusive community building, municipal politics, transportation, and/or grassroots advocacy
Experience leading teams and recruiting, training and mentoring volunteers
Proficiency organizing successful community engagement campaigns
Demonstrated experience developing a strong vision for a project, implementing it and inspiring others
Proven ability to manage and prioritize projects with a strong attention to detail
Engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders of diverse interests and backgrounds in an inclusive environment
Experience developing and managing budgets and maximizing limited resources
Excellent oral and written communications skills, including producing and delivering evidence-based and compelling oral and written presentations
Experience canvassing residents and businesses on a campaign or local issue is considered a strong asset
Thrives in a fast-paced and social work environment
Available for regular evening and occasional weekend work, with flexible work schedule and lieu time provided
