Active Transportation Groups Call on Federal Government to Fund Pedestrian & Cycling Infrastructure
Last week, Cycle Toronto joined the Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA) and Walk Toronto to call on the Federal government to include funding for urban pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in its wider plans to fund public transit and green infrastructure across the country.
At a cost of $5.3 billion, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is the largest transit project in Canada's history. The LRT includes an unfunded award winning streetscaping plan, pictured above, that would see wider sidewalks, street trees and protected bike lanes for the 11 km buried section of the line. The estimated cost is $150 million and it is currently unfunded. This is an ideal project for Federal infrastructure funding.
