Organization bios:

Kensington Market Community Land Trust

The Kensington Market Community Land Trust (KMCLT) is a community-based nonprofit incorporated in 2017 after years of neighbourhood-wide planning. Its mission is to remove property from the speculative real estate market and return it for community benefit. In 2021, KMCLT acquired its first property at 54–56 Kensington Ave., followed by two more acquisitions this year at 380 Spadina Ave and 302 Spadina Ave. With three full-time staff, a nine-person Board of Directors, and hundreds of members, the KMCLT continues to fight to protect their neighbourhood's affordability.

Community and Cultural Spaces Land Trust

The Community and Cultural Spaces Trust (CCST) was founded in 2022 with a $2M acquisition fund, secured as a part of a historic community benefits settlement won by community organization Build A Better Bloor Dufferin, non profit leaders, local elected officials, and countless community members that included a $17M contribution to build and preserve affordable housing and cultural space in Ward 9. Incorporated with a mandate to create and facilitate sustainable processes for acquiring and maintaining real property for use by community, cultural and arts organizations in the Bloor Dufferin neighbourhood, CCST has acquired and preserved two affordable art studios at 180 Shaw Street and continues to search for property in Ward 9. CCST is currently run entirely by a 10 person working Board and is excited to launch a 12 person Steering Committee this fall to advance our planning and acquisition strategy.
