About Cycle Toronto
Cycle Toronto is a member-supported charity that has been leading the change to help build a healthier, more vibrant cycling city since 2008. We work to create access to cycling, build support for cycling infrastructure, and help foster a culture of cycling in Toronto. We are a non-partisan organization that engages a diversity of people in our work pursuing evidence-based solutions to make riding a bike a safer, more convenient option for more people.
The Role
The Programs Manager will engage community, government, and corporate partners to provide programming to help cement existing relationships and cultivate new ones. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Programs Manager will be a community-builder who oversees and refines existing Cycle Toronto engagement and education programs like Bike Month, Bike Valet, and Big Toronto Bike Ride, leads event delivery, and works to identify new opportunities. This role has key responsibilities in meeting the organization’s revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Work with Executive Director to set targets and program budgets as articulated in annual budget and operational plan
- Identify new partnership and program opportunities that support Cycle Toronto’s strategic priorities
- Make recommendations to refine Cycle Toronto events and programs
- Grow cycling education opportunities and audiences
- Continually assess opportunities and develop strategies to effectively engage new and existing partners in cycling issues
Program and Event Delivery
- Ensure the fulfillment of deliverables for all Programs and Partnerships, including Cycle Toronto’s core events and programs: Bike Month, Big Toronto Bike Ride, Bike Valet, Education Workshops, and other strategic cycling education and encouragement programs
- Build and manage event critical paths and and report on key performance metrics
- Oversee internal event calendar including scheduling, permitting, and event logistics
- Grow Cycle Toronto’s education programs and audiences
- Work with the Operations Coordinator to schedule contract staff and volunteers to deliver events, workshops, group rides, and other programming
- Work with Communications Manager to ensure public communications are in line with Cycle Toronto’s goals, brand, and funding needs including social media, mailings, media communications, and marketing materials
Partnerships and Business Development
- Develop plans and build relationships with potential program partners and business members to meet funding targets
- Identify potential business development opportunities, and draft corporate partnership and sponsorship proposals
- Set goals and develop plans for business and revenue growth
- Collaborate with Development Officer on grant and foundation funding opportunities
- Draft partnership contracts, and issue invoices and track payments
- Facilitate meetings and develop partnership proposals and presentations. Make funding requests and follow up for renewal in a timely manner
Qualifications
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in program management or event planning, in event management, or a related field.
- Comfortable using Google Workspace applications (Mail, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Fluent written and spoken English with adaptable writing styles based on audience and context. Any written and spoken secondary language is an asset
- Experience being a part of a small team with multiple projects under competing deadlines
- Proactive, hands on approach
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Positive attitude and self-motivated
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours as necessary
- General awareness of municipal politics and urbanism is an asset
- CAN-Bike Level 4 or higher an asset
Terms of Employment
- Full time, permanent position
- Start Date: March 3, 2025 or as soon as possible
- Salary: $54,000-$68,000 per year. Commensurate with skills and experience. Paid vacation and health/dental benefits package
- Reports to: Executive Director
- The position is located in Toronto. There is some flexibility to do some work from home depending on events and activities
- Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM is expected. Occasional work outside these hours may be required based on our events calendar and time in lieu will be provided
