Chinatown Ride

We are hosting a free Community Ride between the two downtown Chinatowns on Wednesday, August 28. Come and learn about Toronto's Downtown Chinatown history, as well as current issues affecting the neighbourhood, through a guided ride featuring speeches from folks from the Long Time No See Collective, Chinatown Land Trust, and Broadview Chinatown organizing. The end of the ride will feature a small social with snacks.

Speaker bios:
Keith Lock
Canada's first Chinese Canadian filmmaker, Keith Lock's, Flights of Frenzy, won Best Super 8 Award at UNESCO's 10th Muse International, Amsterdam, 1969. A Brighter Moon, 1987, received a Gemini Award Nomination for Best Short Drama. His documentary, The Road Chosen: The Lem Wong Story, recieved NFB's Innoversity Conference Award, 2002. He was cinematographer for Michael Snow's, Two Sides to Every Story, voted TIFF's 150 Essential Works of Canadian Cinema, 2017. His feature, Everything Everywhere Again Alive, 1974, was named in Jim Shedden's "100 Top Canadian Films of All Time", 2020. Keith was the inaugural recipient of the trailblazing Firehorse Award, 2022.
Brenda Joy Lem
Brenda Joy Lem is a member of Long Time No See. LTNS is a group of artists and educators based in Ishpadinaa Chinatown, who honour their ancestors by sharing and teaching the stories of how Chinatown came to be, the histories that have been erased, and recognizing our responsibility to act in solidarity with Indigenous peoples.
