Mission & Vision

Imagine being able to ride bikes with your entire family on any section of Yonge Street, from Steeles Avenue to Lake Ontario, without any fear. With protected bike lanes it would be a fun, easy, and healthy experience getting to school, the grocery store, or your favourite dinner spot.

Calling for protected bike lanes on Yonge is about more than transportation — our streets have the power to connect communities, improve our mental and physical health, provide space for children to play, and allow businesses to thrive.

Cycle Toronto is advocating for reimagining our streets to their full potential and making them work better for everyone. While people will still be able to drive, other options, like biking, will be a lot more appealing with safe spaces on the road. This is a conversation about safe, healthy, and sustainable mobility options for people across our entire city.

We pledge to support this vision through our Move365 framework. Join the pledge with us by signing your name below.

Context

Working alongside with our volunteers alongside an array of organizations representing residents and businesses, Cycle Toronto has helped get three complete streets projects approved for Yonge; one each in Uptown, Midtown, and Downtown.

The temporary ActiveTO complete street through Midtown was the first to hit the pavement in 2021; let’s make sure it stays and isn’t the last.

What’s next?

The three sections of Yonge are disconnected. Together, we can change that. Let’s connect Steeles Avenue to Lake Ontario, not with just a road, but with a place that helps the communities it runs through thrive; a transformation of the street to wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes, trees, and outdoor seating to support a vibrant public realm with safer streets for everyone.
