2026 Municipal Election Pledge

Choosing to ride a bike should be a safe and convenient option for every Torontonian. Everyone deserves getting home to your family worry-free. Achieving that is simple: build a protected, connected cycling network citywide.

In theory, Toronto has a plan. In reality, Toronto is falling behind. Only 59 km of bike lanes were built between 2023 and 2025, well short of the city's own 100 km goal under its Cycling Network Plan. That's at best a D+ or a C- if grading on a curve.* Does that sound good enough to you?

*Yes, recently the province has made things more challenging, but Toronto was already off track: Bill 212 didn't take effect until late 2024, and Bill 60 until late 2025.

This October, you have the chance to send a message that streets are for people, and that Toronto can't wait. This isn't about ideology. It's geometry. There will never be enough road space for everyone to choose to drive, and no city has solved traffic congestion by prioritizing cars, whatever the campaign trail would have you believe.

Cycle Toronto is asking you to pledge to vote for candidates who will champion a better cycling city for everyone, because:

  • Bike lanes are proven to improve the safety of all road users
  • Bike lanes reduce air pollution and boost public health
  • Bike lanes support local businesses
  • Bike lanes relieve traffic congestion and give more people more transportation options
  • Bike lanes allow more people to choose cycling as a safe and fun option

Sign the pledge, we’ll keep you up to date on where candidates stand before you vote.

Will you sign?
