Ward 28: Toronto Centre-Rosedale
Welcome to Ward 28 - we are in the heart of the city, and boast some of Toronto's best bike infrastructure, from the Sherbourne cycle track to the Lower Don Trail and most recently, the bike lanes on Richmond and Adelaide. Yet there is still a lot of work to do. Come out and get to know us. We are looking to grow our advocacy group, and what better way than by coming out and meeting us. We try to meet on the second Wednesday of the month at the Regent Park Community Centre (402 Shuter Street) - check our Facebook group for updates and details.
In May we held a well attended Bike Town Hall (read all about it at Dandyhorse), and in June we tabled with Charlie's Freewheels at the Music in St. James Park- with Lemon Bucket Orkestra- a bicycle powered concert, sponsored by the St. Lawrence BIA, with a barbeque sponsored by the St Lawrence Market. We also hosted a Bike Month Commuter Station at Shuter and Sherbourne and joined the Cabbagetown BIA Bike Tune Up with tune ups by local bike shop Cycle Solutions.
Here’s some other great things happening in Ward 28:
Sunday June 18 - The Evergreen Brickworks Bike Day
Sat. July 1- Join Cycle Toronto Ward 28 at the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Canada Day Celebration for Canada's 150th birthday - Decorate your bike for Canada Day and march in the parade from Sherbourne and the Esplanade to St. James Park, with a picnic and entertainment in St. James Park after the parade
Coming up in August we hope to joing Glen Murray's Annual Bike Ride with Charlie's Freewheels
Of course, we still have ongoing priorities for the new year including:
- More tabling at local events
- Checking traffic light actuators and improving safety at intersections
- Advocating for more bike parking
- Ongoing advocacy to improve the Shuter Street bike lane.
