Street Smarts

Giving Tuesday, Street Smarts & The Bike to School Project

Giving Tuesday

It’s Giving Tuesday, and the launch of our annual Street Smarts drive where we raise funds for high-quality cycling education programs, such as The Bike to School Project. This year our goal is to raise $25,000 to maintain and expand into new programs including a Family Riding Workshop and Guided Confidence-Building Rides. Reaching our goal ensures we’ll be able to provide excellent education in schools, libraries and on streets across Toronto.

Street Smarts 2019

December 3rd marks the return of our annual Street Smarts drive where we raise funds to deliver our cycling education programs to people across the city. So, we want to share our cycling education goals for 2020 goals.

#EndBikeTheft: How 529 Garage works

Why is 529 Garage is a better bike registry and recovery system than what we have in place in Toronto?

It's a community-powered system that allows you to quickly plug-in to a network of individuals, bike shops, community organizations, the City, and the Police.

Here’s how it works in six steps:

1. Download the 529 Garage app

Steve's bike theft story

Bike theft is a systemic problem - but it's also personal.

That's why as we work to bring 529 Garage to Toronto in 2019, we're sharing stories from members who have dealt with stolen bikes in Toronto.

529 Garage has been transformative in Vancouver. We hope that by bringing this proven, community-powered registry and recovery system to Toronto, we can help remove a major barrier to riding in the city - fear of bike theft.

Why $50,000? Here’s our budget to #EndBikeTheft

Thanks for your support as our plans to #EndBikeTheft shape up.

We’ve been thrilled at the positive feedback about our big plans to tackle bike theft by bringing 529 Garage to Toronto. Clearly the need for a community-powered system is resonating with people across the city. We’re reaching out to ask for your support this year to get the ball rolling in early 2019. You can get a charitable tax receipt if you do.

We're gearing up to tackle a serious problem in 2019. Recovery rates of stolen bikes are abysmal. We hear time and time again that theft is preventing people from riding. The current system isn’t working.

Week 3 update: we're already over $5,000 raised! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far.

Help us raise $50,000 to #endbiketheft

We're gearing up to tackle a serious problem in 2019. We need your support to make it happen.

We have a bold goal: raise $50,000 to bring 529 Garage to Toronto, working closely with Toronto Police and the City of Toronto.

529 Garage is the largest community-powered bike recovery service. Its community includes over 400 law enforcement agencies, universities, bike clubs and bike shops around the world.

Street Smarts: final push to $50,000!

We’re nearing the end of our Street Smarts campaign to raise $50,000 for safer streets and better bike education! From free workshops at local library branches to Ride the City tours to help riders gain skills cycling on city streets, we’ve heard that our education and outreach programs are people’s first positive touchpoint with cycling in Toronto.

A huge thank you to every generous donor who has contributed so far - thanks to you, we’re nearly halfway to our goal. But we know we can do more.
