Our city is still facing a crisis in road safety. I'm riding to make a difference, and elevate the need to transform Toronto into a road safety leader.
My family was affected by a tragic accident last year in which my wife was struck by a driver while commuting to work on her bicycle. Her injuries were serious and her recovery is ongoing. You can read about it in this article that she wrote for NOW Magazine (https://nowtoronto.com/news/vision-zero-cycling-toronto/). I’m sure most of you are aware I am a regular bicycle commuter, I know that many of you are as well. I can say with 100% certainty that all of you are pedestrians. The situation for vulnerable road users (cyclists, pedestrians, etc.) is getting worse as Toronto continues to falter on implementation of its Vision Zero Plan (now Vision Zero 2.0). This declining situation in our city has been covered in local, national and international media – the contrast to cities that are making real strides forward, like Halifax, Montreal, London, and NYC, is glaring. Continued and sustained political advocacy is required to make Toronto’s streets safe for all users. We need to compel the city to build out better infrastructure, more protective policies, with more automated enforcement as soon as possible. Supporting my ride for safe streets will help Cycle Toronto continue advocating for a faster roll out of road safety interventions. I hope I can count on your support!
